This day we depart from San José driving through the old road to the Atlantic. On our way we will pas by two beautiful waterfalls located in the continental divide. As we descend from the waterfall to the north Atlantic region of Costa Rica, you will see awesome lanscapes all along the road. As soon as we arrive to Puerto Viejo de sarapiquí, we will get into our rooms to change our clothes in order to start our first biking day. This day we will bike inside the banana plantations of the region as far as you wish or you resist. There endless roads were built by the banana companies in order to allow semi trailer trucks to take the bananas from the processing plants to the cargo ships. As the soil remain pretty wet and muddy most of the year, it was necessary to spread tons of rocks for several months in order to get a firm terrain for heavy trucks. The roads are flat roads but pretty rocky, so that you will have a bumpy biking experience in this area. Day 2: From The North Atlantic to the North Center of Costa Rica
Here
you can refresh from your first biking day by swimming in the pool. There is a small lagoon where tilapia fish has been stuck and ready to be catched for you. Try to catch a good one and the kitchen of the hotel will prepare the fish for you. We will stay in Castelmare for our second night.
From here we will be heading to where the dirt road meet tha paved road. Then it's time to put the bikes on top of the van and drive to "La Fortuna Town" where we will get into Tabacón resort to enjoy of the hot springs that descends from the forest that surrounds the volcano, forming cascades and natural pools through exotic tropical gardens, and flowing into our pools, to guarantee an unforgettable sensation of 39°C (102°F).The time spent here is the best time you have had in your life. You get in the hot springs right in front of the most active volcano of the amercias. The volcanu erupted for the first time in 1968 and since then has been making daily eruption as the one on the photo. During the day you can hear the rumbles and see the columns of smoke. At night the scenary is the one in the picture. We spend our third night in a hotel nearby the volcano.
We
start biking from La Fortuna through a road that surrounds Arenal Lake.
Right afetr breakfast we're ready to start biking up to Monteverde Cloud Forest. Monteverde is located at an altitude of 1,500meters above sea level.(4,950 feet). The climate is very nice and foggy in the morning and the evening. Biking up hill is not that easy, it requires good physical condition. Our van support will be all the time right behind the last biker, always available in case you need something like, camera, refill bottle of water, mixed nuts, etc... In this part of the tour you are on the continental divide. This means that taking photos from here is a pretty good idea. You do not have to be holding your camera all the time, just leave it in the van and every time you need it just make a sign to the driver and he will stop immediatley. Monteverde was settled by quakers who came from Alabama in the 50's. They came to Costa Rica scaping from the danger of another war and the economical situation in the USA. These people started to live on their own way, growing their own vegetables, with no electricity. Some of them still keep the old tradition but their descendants now enjoy the benefits of modern life. In Monteverde you can do the following optional tours : 1- Canopy 2- Sky Walk 3- Horse back riding We will spend our fifth night in a hotel of Monteverde.
The same way we got to the top, now we are descending from Monteverde through a rocky and dusty road (Mudy if it rains). As before, the landscapes are excellent and we get a perfect view of the Nicoya Peninsula from the top of the mountain. We will pass by some little towns and crops as we get to the lower part. Be witness of the drastic changes of the vegetations as we descend as well as the change in the temperature. Now we are gettin in the hot climate of the Pacific coast. As we reach the Panamerican highway, we then leave our bikes to get in tha ven and retur to San José. This Tour Includes: * All meals from pick up to lunch last day.. * Snacks and bottled water every day. * Toyota Van * Bicycles. * Helmets. * Bilingual tour guide * Van suppor evry day * Tropical fruits * Mixed nuts * First aid kit * Insurance |
